Lemon Law

Lemon Laws are United States state laws that provide remedies to consumers for automobiles that repeatedly fail to meet certain standards of quality and performance, which are called lemons. Lemon Laws vary by state and may not necessarily cover used or leased vehicles. The rights afforded consumers by Lemon Laws may exceed the warranties expressed in purchase contracts.

You just bought a "Lemon"

The problems begin when you find yourself in the shop dealing with one car problem after another. You are leaving your defective car off at the dealership. You are driving a rental what seems like more often than you have your own car. Bottom line, you are spending hour after hour dealing with problems you know you shouldn’t be having – you suspect you have a lemon.

Don't be discouraged

Lemon Law protects your rights which are different in each state and depend on your waranty that came with your vehicle. Your rights could be much greater than you think. Dealerships know that most people aren’t aware that they can get legal help without paying attorneys’ fees. They don’t back down because they don’t expect you to fully take advantage of your lemon law rights.

Paperwork

  • Keep records of all repair work orders.
  • Check on any TSB’s – Technical Service Bulletins – for your vehicle. These are alerts or instructions from the manufacturer to the dealership about defects or repairs in certain models.
  • Ask the mechanic to write your TSB request on the repair order.
  • Don’t be misled by the dealership. Trust your own observations of the vehicle’s performance, and document it.
